The National Meat Institute of Uruguay (INAC) is leading a trade mission in the GCC countries, aiming to promote Uruguay's high-quality halal beef and lamb. The mission highlights the nutritional benefits of Uruguayan meat, which is naturally produced in a temperate climate with fertile soils, and is renowned for its low saturated fat, balanced Omega 6 and Omega 3, iron, and vitamin E content. Uruguay's livestock industry covers over 80% of the country, with a mandatory electronic traceability system in place since 2006. In 2023, Uruguay exported a record USD 13 million worth of Halal-certified beef and USD 5 million worth of Halal-certified lamb to the GCC countries.
