Within the initial six months of the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine emerged as a significant player in the global sugar market, exporting over 403.5 thousand tons of sugar, with 98.4% of this volume intended for international markets and the remainder, 1.6%, destined for the European Union (EU). The resumption of sugar exports to the EU, which commenced in February, saw Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy as the primary recipients, accounting for 72%, 12%, and 12% of the exports, respectively. Despite the domestic market's consumption reaching an estimated 900 thousand tons annually, Ukrainian sugar producers managed to export 1.2 million tons, leaving a surplus of 200 thousand tons within the country. The marketing year's first half also marked a productive season for domestic sugar production, with a total output of 1.8 million tons.
