Morocco has increased its wheat imports due to weak rainfall leading to a significant drop in cereal production, resulting in a strategy to source wheat from various countries, including France, Romania, Germany, Russia, Poland, and the United States. The country's total cereal production was down 43% compared to the previous season, with soft wheat production estimated at 17.5 million quintals, durum wheat at 7.1 million, and barley at 6.6 million. Despite the higher volume of imports, the import bill decreased by 7.9%. Morocco has also imported over 222,000 tons of wheat from Russia, more than twice the amount from the same period in 2023.
