China is making a concerted effort to secure tuna resources and develop a value-added tuna sector, as discussed at a recent conference in Hangzhou. The conference, organized by the Zhejiang provincial government, included participation from China's largest tuna companies and leading experts. The country is focusing on meeting local demand for functional health solutions, such as peptides and collagens derived from tuna, as its population ages. Despite tensions and sanctions over fishing practices, China continues to pursue access to the tuna-rich waters of the South Pacific and maintain crucial processing and supply relationships with international partners.
